Thinking of switching website provider? Here's what to check first.
Many businesses are stuck with a provider without really knowing what they agreed to — what the site costs, whether they own it, and what happens the day they want to move on. Here are the questions worth asking before you commit, whoever you choose.
The checklist
Six questions that separate a fair agreement from one that quietly locks you in.
Do you own the site — or rent it?
With many providers you rent the site for as long as you pay. Stop paying, and it disappears. Ask: do I keep the website itself if I cancel?
Is there a lock-in period?
Some agreements tie you in for 12 months or more and renew automatically unless you cancel in time. Check the binding period and notice period before you sign.
Do you know what it actually costs?
"Request a quote" makes prices hard to compare. Ask for a fixed price — one-time and monthly — in writing, before you decide.
Who is the domain registered to?
Your .no domain should be registered to your organisation number, not the provider. You can check it yourself at norid.no. If the provider owns it, you can get stuck.
Do you get to keep your content?
The text, images and structure are yours. Check that you can get them handed over — ideally the whole site — if you switch.
Who helps you when it's urgent?
Do you reach a person, or a ticket queue? Ask who actually makes changes, and how quickly.
How we do it at Agentas Web
We built Agentas Web around exactly these questions — here are our answers to the checklist.
You keep your content — and can own the site
There is no lock-in, and you can always take your content with you. After a while you can also buy the site out and own it outright.
No binding period
30 days' notice, whenever you want. No 12-month tie-in, no automatic renewal traps.
A fixed, open price
Fra 5 900 kr engangs + 449 kr/mnd – du ser prisen før du bestemmer deg, ikke etter en salgssamtale. See all prices.
The domain stays in your name
Always registered to your organisation number. We handle the technical side of moving it — you don't have to.
A person answers
You deal with us directly, not a ticket queue — and small content changes are included every month.
Common questions
Can you help me switch from another provider?
Yes. We build the new site first, then move the domain over with no downtime. You don't have to do the technical part yourself — we guide you through the little that needs doing.
Do I own my website with you?
You own your content, there is no lock-in, and you can take it with you. After a while you can also buy the site out and own it completely.
What about my existing domain and email?
We move the domain by pointing its nameservers to us (delegation) — you keep ownership, and your email keeps working. We check for email records before any switch.
What does it cost?
Fast pris fra 5 900 kr engangs + 449 kr/mnd, oppgitt på forhånd. See all prices.
How long does a switch take?
Usually a few days once we have your content. The domain switch itself happens after you've approved the new site.
